In the grueling 75-km women’s Cycling Road Race, which took over two hours to complete, Barbados Amber Joseph finished 19th overall in a field of 40. Joseph was bouncing back from a tough battle on the cycling track which would have left any athlete mentally and physically drained as she slipped from second and in a medal hunt, to 6th overall in the Women’s Omnium.
She took to the start line for the Road Race which was sent off around 11 a.m. and the Bajan rider retuned in a time of 2 hours 13 minutes and 29 seconds. She was adrift of the winner by 3 minutes and 41 seconds in the Inaugural Junior Pan American Games event in Cali Colombia.
The Road Race which isn’t Joseph specialty, but her endurance and sprinting ability from the track has seen her bridged the track and road over the last couple years. The gold medal came down to a sprint which was won by Yareli Mendoza from Mexico who crossed the line in 2 hours 9 minutes and 48 seconds. Mendoza was less than a second ahead of the silver medalist Erika Lopez from Colombia.
