Jack Kirby captured Barbados first medal at the Inaugural Junior Pan American Games in Cali Colombia when he finished third in the Men’s 100m backstroke.

Competing on Day 3 evening session at the Hernando Botero O’byrne Pool, Kirby who was swimming in Lane 5, found himself slightly down on the race leader and in a close battle for third as they made the turn at the far end.

Not able to see the field Kirby came home strong and timed his reach for the wall to perfection as it was indeed a close finish for third place. The Bajan clocked 56.18 secs to out touch Brazilians Ney Filho who clocked 56.29 and Victor Baganha(56.55 secs).

The gold medal winner was Diego Salgado from Mexico who clocked 55.38 secs, while second place went to Patrick Groters from Aruba in 55.75 secs.
