Barbados Danielle Treasure and Jack Kirby turned in two impressive performances in their respective B Final at Hernando Botero O’byrne Pool in Cali Colombia in Saturday. Treasure finished third, while Kirby was fourth in women and men’s 200m backstroke respectively.
In the evening session of Day 2 of the Inaugural Junior Pan American Games, Treasure improve on her morning’s performance when she swam a time of 2:23.60 in the Women’s Backstroke to clock 2:23.37 to finished third. It was a close battle for the second place spot in the B Final as Treasure was out touched by Panama’s Carolina Cermelli (2:23.15). The winner of the B Final was Elizabeth Garrido from the Domincan Republic in 2:22.46. The A final winner was Athena Kovacs from Mexico in 2:15.64.
In the morning session, in almost a blanket finish for second place Barbados Jack Kirby had to settle for third in his Heat of the Men’s 200m backstroke at the Hernando Botero O’byrne Pool in Cali Colombia on Saturday. Kirby swimming in Lane 4 was clocked at 2:07.10, while Steven Cobos from Ecuador was second in 2:06.97 and Carlos Davelouis from Peru was fourth in 2:07.17 each within less than half a second of each other.
Kirby improved on his morning time and in the evening stopped the clock at 2:09.77 to capture fourth place in his B final which was won by Carlos Davelouis from Peru in 2:06.27.
Treasure and Kirby are also scheduled to swim the 100m Backstroke on Sunday November 28th.
